The Vivace Experience

Last weekend, I visited One Aesthetics in Winter Park, Florida to try out their newest offering: Vivace Fractional Microneedle RF. It was unlike any treatment I’ve experienced before, and I’m excited to see how my skin continues to respond.

Immediately after, I was a little pink, and my face and neck looked tighter and brighter. The treatment wasn’t painful at all, and the next morning no one would even know I’d had anything done!

Let me tell you all about this skin-tightening technology they call The Vivace Experience.

It starts with microneedling. We’ve talked before about the benefits of microneedling: It creates tiny micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen. It’s fantastic for a range of issues that can plague the complexion, like fine lines, scarring, hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, and even skin laxity. Microneedling is also effective for reducing stretch marks.

Well, Vivace has taken microneedling to the next level by combining it with radio frequency energy plus red and blue LED light wavelengths. These three technologies work together to provide significant and striking collagen remodeling. Vivace smoothes and regenerates the skin more dramatically than any of these modalities would be capable of separately. Regular microneedling can require up to six treatments for meaningful results, while Vivace produces impressive results in just three treatments.

Vivace Microneedling

Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a minimally invasive treatment that has been used for many years to rejuvenate the skin. Fine needles create microinjuries in the skin to trigger its healing, rebuilding process. The microscopic punctures serve as channels through which beneficial nutrients and growth factors can enter the dermis to enhance the healing process. An abundance of new collagen and elastin are produced; resulting in a smoother, tighter, firmer, and more even-toned complexion. But Vivace is much more than the standard microneedling apparatus.

For a device that delivers three technologies in one, the Vivace handpiece is a sleek tool. It utilizes thirty-six, fine, gold-tipped needles that are guided into the skin by a robotic motor for speed, and precision. Robotic control ensures the most comfortable microneedling experience possible, with no tearing of the skin and minimal swelling.  The depth of insertion is fully adjustable up to 3.5 mm, depending on the treatment area. The Vivace is also more precise than any other microneedling device. Even the length of time the needle engages with the skin is adjustable. It’s these types of considerations that ensure optimum comfort and results.

Vivace Radiofrequency

So, microneedling helps rejuvenate the skin, but the addition of radiofrequency takes this rejuvenation to the next level. When the two technologies combine, it’s known as fractional microneedle RF.

Radiofrequency (RF) is one of the most established methods for non-surgical skin tightening currently available. Radiofrequency describes alternating electrical current that causes molecular movement within the skin to generate heat.

The gold tipped needles of the Vivace are insulated and emit radiofrequency just at the tips. This way, the RF energy stimulates collagen and elastin production in the underlying tissues of the face and body, without disrupting or damaging the outermost layer of skin. The controlled heat encourages the build-up of collagen and constricts and tightens tissue to firm and contour facial features.

Cooling technology keeps the device from becoming too warm. When compared to laser treatments, radiofrequency is not only more comfortable; there is less damage done to the skin’s surface, which means there is far less social downtime. The skin may be a bit pink or red for a few hours following treatment, but it usually returns to normal by the following day.

The microneedles allow the radiofrequency energy to penetrate deeper into the dermis than it could without needling, producing faster, more dramatic results. The radiofrequency works to induce new collagen formation in the deep dermal layers, while microneedling encourages a resurfacing of the epidermis (outermost layer of skin). This means the quality and structure of deeper tissue is improved, plus damaged, and aged surface skin tissue is replaced with new, healthier, skin cells. This is how Vivace delivers tighter skin, improved acne scarring, the fading of stretch marks, reduced pore size, and more.

A ten-inch color touch screen allows the practitioner to make several adjustments to personalize treatment

A Vivace treatment typically has the immediate short-term effect of collagen contraction (the skin appears tighter) and the long-term impact of collagen synthesis (as the process of tissue repair begins). Researchers have observed an increase in the diameter of previously existing collagen as well as an increase in collagen deposition for eight to ten weeks following treatment. They also noted an increase in hyaluronic acid and overall cellularity (number of cells) in the treated area.

After two to three treatments, significant dermal remodeling is evident, like reduced wrinkles, lines, and a tightening of the skin. Vivace is the perfect non-surgical solution for lifting mild sagging of the jowls and laxity around the eyelids, or neck.

Radiofrequency has also been shown to be an effective treatment for acne. (Vivace also has a blue LED light option that targets acne bacteria, increasing its efficacy against acne.)

As if precision, robotic microneedling plus controlled radiofrequency energy wasn’t enough, Vivace emits LED light pulses to stimulate circulation, increase moisture levels in the skin, and improve skin tone and texture. LED (light emitting diode) energy also speeds healing time and accelerates the fading of redness or inflammation post-treatment.

Depending on the needs of the patient, blue or red LED light can be selected. Blue LED light disrupts acne bacteria, while red increases collagen production. Vivace goes above and beyond, utilizing the synergy three modalities at once to improve skin quality.

Your Vivace ExperienceVivace microneedling handpiece

Vivace is a safe and virtually painless treatment with no real downtime.

When you arrive for treatment, your practitioner will evaluate your skin and discuss your goals and concerns. Vivace can treat the face, hands, neck, chest, and more–anywhere your skin could use a little firming or tightening. The adjustable needle depth makes it safe to address just about any area of the body.

If Vivace is right for you, your skin will first be cleansed, and then a numbing cream applied. The Vivace numbing cream is designed with optimum client comfort in mind and is highly effective. Most people describe the experience as painless. The most you might feel is a warming sensation from the radiofrequency. This was definitely my experience. On a scale of 1-10, my discomfort was seldom at more than a 2.

Once the numbing cream takes effect (usually about thirty to forty minutes), you’re ready for your treatment. The Vivace handpiece is placed on your skin and moved carefully and methodically over the target area in sections. Treatment can take anywhere from thirty minutes to a full hour, depending on how much surface area is treated.

Immediately following treatment, a special serum and soothing mask will be applied to the treated area. Microneedling leaves tiny microchannels in the skin, so active skincare ingredients are more readily absorbed into the dermis, maximizing results. Think of it like refueling your body after a tough workout.

Since the channels in your skin will remain open for a few hours, it’s best not to apply makeup for a minimum of six hours or until the following morning. Your skin may be slightly red after your treatment, but that should dissipate by the next day. You will receive some of the Vivace serum to take home with you. You should only apply that for the first 24 hours after treatment. You can return to normal daily activities, but it’s better to avoid vigorous exercise so as not to overheat the skin.

Your Vivace Results

You’ll notice improvements after just one treatment with Vivace. Skin will be slightly firmer, lifted, and have an overall more youthful appearance. But for the most satisfying, dramatic results, at least three treatments are ideal, spaced four to six weeks apart (to allow your skin time to heal and rebuild fully).

After a series of three treatments, you can expect:

  • Fewer or minimized fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduced acne scarring
  • Reduced pore size
  • A more even skin tone
  • Smoother, softer skin texture
  • Fewer or reduced stretch marks
  • A tighter face, neck, hands, body
  • Thicker, less crepey skin
  • A more youthful, radiant appearance

Accelerated collagen production occurs for up to six months following treatment, which means your results will continue to improve during that time. The use of high-quality skin care products will ensure quick healing and help maintain your results.
